There are a number of options for health insurance for birth mothers.  If you don’t have medical insurance to cover the pregnancy, labor and delivery, don’t worry!  You still have options when looking for medical insurance.  Prenatal care is important, and we are happy to help you find the right coverage.  Sometimes is just a matter of being tenacious and following up with the right local office.  We are really good at this! You will have to fill out paperwork and provide some documentation, but we can almost certainly find state aid wherever you live.

Also, the adopting parents will cover your out of pocket costs for co-pays and deductibles.  Here’s how health insurance for birth mothers works.

Affordable Health Care Act

• With the affordable care act medical insurance is easier to get.
• You may be eligible for an affordable plan now that you are pregnant.
• Review the policies available to pregnant women in your state of residence.
• Apply online for coverage in your state.

Medicaid health insurance for birth mothers

Many women who were not eligible for Medicaid before pregnancy may become eligible with a pregnancy. Don’t overlook this possibility.  It can offer significant savings.

• Research the Medicaid eligibility requirements in your state to find out what the options are.
• You might also be eligible for Women Infants and Children (WIC) plan.  This includes nutrition guidance, food, breastfeeding support and other benefits.

Family Plan

• You may be eligible under your parents’ private health insurance plan.
• If your parents know you’re pregnant, getting medical insurance is fairly straightforward.
• If they do not know you’re pregnant, you can still try to get on the policy. Consider using an alternate mailing address to protect your privacy.

Medical Insurance for birth mothers and Other Expenses

• Adopting parents cover medical expenses during pregnancy
• Expenses coverage continues about six weeks after vaginal delivery or eight weeks post c-section.
• During this time other living expenses can also be covered.  Rules vary from state to state.
